ROOM 1301 of Katerina Hotel in Batu Pahat is where former Malaysian Health Minister Chua Soi Lek was caught having sex with a woman friend, forcing him to quit all his political posts on Wednesday. It is also his favourite room whenever he checked into the plush, 15-storey hotel, which has 188 rooms. Since the video sex scandal broke after after two lengthy DVDs hit the streets showing Dr Chua engaging in sexual acts with an unidentified woman, a number of people have called the hotel to book the premier suite, which costs RM800 a night. There are nine premier suites in the hotel, which the hotel says are reserved for VIPs. Johor police have identified the woman, who is said to be in her 30s and owns two clothing stores.

She has fled to China to take temporary cover from the hounding journalists since the DVDs were made public. Dr Chua, 61, who quit on Wednesday, a day after he shocked the nation by admitting he was the man in a widely circulated sex video, said the woman is a 'personal friend.' At a press conference on Wednesday, Dr Chua said he was caught because he made the mistake of going 'to the same hotel and the same room' for his trysts with the woman. The Malaysian Association of Hotels on Thursday reminded all hotels that it is not allowed to place CCTVs in any hotel room. 'Any CCTV camera placed in a room will be intruding on the privacy of the hotel guest and is a violation of an individual?s privacy,' Mr Sarjit Singh, the association executive director was quoted as saying by The Star on Friday. 'CCTVs are allowed only in public areas like the lobby and corridors.' 'If you go to a hotel, you might think that his is just any other hotel room,' he said. 'But my biggest mistake was to go to the same hotel and the same room, thinking that it would be more convenient.'

Woman detained for allegedly distributing sex DVD

ABOVE & BELOW: The DVD peddler detained and remanded for 4 days

By FARIK ZOLKEPLI
JOHOR BARU: A 29-year-old woman has been detained for allegedly distributing the sex DVD involving former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek. Johor Police Chief Deputy Comm Datuk Hussin Ismail said the beauty salon owner was arrested near her shop in Taman Bukit Perdana, Batu Pahat, at
2.30pm on Thursday. He explained that police also seized one DVD and three VCDs of the banned material and a laptop during the arrest. "We believe this is not the woman in the video.” She will be remanded today," he told pressmen on Friday after launching the rank presentation ceremony to some 600 police personnel at the police headquarters here. DCP Hussin also confirmed that police had recorded Dr Chua's statement but decline to elaborate further. "We have not recorded statements from others. "The investigation is still ongoing," he said.

DCP Hussin explained that a Bukit Aman Forensics Unit (ABOVE)was assisting state police with investigations in Batu Pahat. He said the case was being investigated under Section 292 of the Penal Code for distributing and possessing material containing pornographic elements. When asked whether the hotel workers had a hand in the sex video, DCP Hussin said he did not want to speculate. "We will explore all angles in the investigations. "One angle is identifying who was involved in the DVD," he said, urging those who had obtained the DVDs to surrender the copies to the police or destroy them. "It is an offence to keep such a DVD including transferring the video to a computer," he said.

Friday January 4, 2008; Probe team visits hotel
BATU PAHAT: A seven member forensic team from the federal police headquarters visited a four-star hotel here Thursday to investigate the scene where the sex DVD which featured Health Minister Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek was purportedly filmed. The team, comprising six men and a woman, arrived at The Katerina Hotel at about
3.35pm in two vehicles. It is learnt deputy CID director (II) Senior Asst Comm (I) Shatar Abdul Jalil headed the team. The purpose of the visit was to determine how and where the spy cameras were planted to record the sexual act. A source familiar with the investigation said police have also recorded statements from relevant people including the management and staff of the hotel. Johor police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Husin Ismail confirmed the team’s visit.

Meanwhile, the operator of a boutique in a supermarket here, who is believed to be the woman who was also featured in the sex DVD, could not be located. Reporters who turned up at her shop found it was closed and checks with neighbouring shopkeepers revealed the boutique had been closed for several days. A Chinese daily reporter even tried to look for her at a housing scheme in Batu Pahat but found her house locked and vacated since news of the sex DVD broke out. In Muar, police operations to locate the sex DVDs sold in outlets here since Wednesday were unsuccessful. Muar OCPD Asst Comm Mohammad Nasir Ramli said they would continue with their operations to ensure the sex DVDs are not sold to the public.

I urge those who have received copies of the DVDs to surrender them to us and lodge a police report. Those with information pertaining to the case can also assist us in the investigation.” District Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs’ enforcement unit chief Arifin Baharin said raids at night markets in several areas also failed to uncover the sex DVDs. In Penang, police have detected a video sex clip, featuring Chua, in the state. It is believed that the edited 28min 55sec clip has already made its way into thousands of handphones here OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid said telecommunication shop owners had been advised not to download the clip for their customers. “Anyone caught selling the sex DVD or having the clip on their handphones can be charged with possession of pornographic materials under Section 292 of the Penal Code,” he said

Bukit Aman Forensic Team Visits Hotel In Dr Chua's Sex DVD Case

BATU PAHAT, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- A seven-member forensic team from the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters Thursday visited a four-star hotel here believed to be in connection with investigations into the sex DVD featuring former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek. The team, comprising six men and a woman, arrived at the hotel at about 3.35pm in two vehicles but did not speak to reporters who had gathered at the 15-storey hotel since morning. Dr Chua announced his resignation yesterday as the Health Minister, MCA vice-president, Johor MCA chairman, Batu Pahat MCA division chief and Labis member of parliament, with immediate effect. His announcement came a day after he admitted that he was the man in the sex DVDs circulating in Johor. Meanwhile, the Malaysia Association of Hotels said it would send notices to all its 400 members to be wary of irresponsible people installing spy cameras in hotel rooms. Its executive director Sarjit Singh said the association would remind hoteliers to be on the lookout for individuals, including hotel staff, who might attempt to breach hotel guests' privacy. He said closed-circuit television cameras were installed in foyers, lobbies, lifts, car parks and around hotel premises for security surveillance except in hotel rooms. "If spy cameras are installed in hotel rooms, then they are obviously against ethics and regulations," he told Bernama. He also advised the public not to be unduly worried over their privacy when they stay in hotels in the country. "We want to assure hotel guests their security and privacy are guaranteed," he said. Meanwhile, Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners executive director Shaharuddin Mohd Saaid said Dr Chua's sex DVD recording in a hotel room in Johor was a bizzare case that had raised public concerns on their privacy in hotel rooms

'It's not for us to judge Chua'

PETALING JAYA (Jan 2, 2008): Former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s resignation was an emotional response to society’s inflated sense of moral high ground, said women’s rights activist Zaitun Kasim. "Is it for the public to make these decisions?" she asked, stating firmly that the real crime is in the invasion of privacy, rather than adultery. Adultery, according to Zaitun, is more of a moral issue that is determined by each individual’s personal accountability, rather than a crime. "Whether we agree or not (with his actions), it’s his personal life." She also objected vehemently to the spying culture prevalent among society. "What now, do we have to go to hotels at our own risk?" she quipped.

"We’re going after the wrong people with the wrong attitude," she added. Zaitun maintained that it was obvious that Chua was set up by politically motivated people who spent so much time and effort setting up the spy cameras and distributing copies of the video to the public, especially while election season looms near. "If they had put half their brain and energy into positive endeavours like flood mitigation, that would have actually benefited the public." "Morality is a slippery issue, it’s easy to point fingers, but who are we to make such judgments?"

PUTRAJAYA (Jan 2, 2008): A day after he bravely confessed to being the man in a secretly-filmed sex video and defiantly refused to resign, a bitter health minister and MCA vice-president Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek today resigned from his government, all party posts and as Labis MP with immediate effect. He told a packed press conference in his office here: "I've informed the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and MCA president that I will resign as Health Minister with immediate effect. I also relinquish my post as Labis MP, MCA vice-president, Johor MCA chairman and Batu Pahat MCA head." Datuk Seri Dr Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Chua's decision was an appropriate one, adding that the matter was not discussed in the Cabinet meeting today and that no recommendations had been made. He said a temporary health minister would be appointed, and that the portfolio would still go to the MCA. The prime minister said he did not think that this episode would precipitate a crisis in the MCA.

Just a day earlier, Chua had said in his constituency of Labis that he would not resign as he served at the pleasure of the prime minister and that it was clear why the DVDs, which were reportedly recorded two years ago, were being distributed now. He had also said the woman was his "personal friend".

Asked why he changed his mind within 24 hours, the 61-year-old Chua said: "After I confessed my mistake, I had hoped Malaysians would accept my apology. Unfortunately, from the feedback I've received, I found that Malaysians could not accept it. Some Malaysians are behaving holier-than-thou. "I am afraid if I continue to hold the positions in the government or the party, it would be a burden to the government and the party, especially in the context of Islam Hadhari and healthy political culture mooted by my party president (Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting)." Chua also had some advice to MCA and other BN component party leaders who may find themselves in a similar position. "Those who have made mistakes or have certain weaknesses as a leader have to be responsible. That is why I come before not only the national and party leaders, but also the rakyat. It seems that I am not accepted," he said in his trademark sarcasm.

He admitted he had "idealised" a situation that the public would accept his apology. "I think I have simplified a complex matter. By doing so (confessing), I thought people would think that I am a political leader with high moral grounds ... after 61 years, I have learnt a lesson that honesty doesn't always pay."
On whether the support of the Chinese community for the BN government would be affected, he said: "No. A lot of people think that I am a baggage to carry because they want to behave holier-than-thou. Maybe the support will increase because they think that all they have in the government are very clean." The whole episode had panned out in a whirl as an old year gave way to the new. Two DVDs were distributed at random in Johor by unknown people. One DVD lasted 56 minutes and the other 44 minutes. Asked when he tendered his resignation, he said he had done so just before the press conference, which started at
3.40pm. "Starting today, I will be an ordinary rakyat. I hope I won't be a target of certain quarters anymore." He revealed that the prime minister had promised him an investigation would be done to find out who are behind the filming of the scenes "so it won't be a practice in this country where people are allowed to use these tactics to topple anyone".

"If this person successfully (escapes), I am sure I would not be the first and I would not be the last (victim). In a political struggle, it should be based on your performance, professionalism and integrity. So a simple tape can destroy a person's political career. If they find this is effective, I am sure people are smart to use it. This is the most cost and time effective (method)," he said. Chua said he was "proud" that he dared to admit his mistake in public. However, he reiterated that he would not speculate if he was a victim of political assassination. "I have received no fewer than 200 SMSes condemning certain party leaders, I would not go into it. The moment I leave, I don't like to see my party split. I hope the party leadership under Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting, if he is practising real healthy political culture, would look into it."

Chua, who had openly declared he would be contesting higher posts in the party, including the presidency, said the healthy political culture should also embrace zero corruption and no moral judgment. "Healthy politcal cultures should not be just confined to only the terms of the office. Terms of office are the easiest to fulfil," he said. Under Ong's leadership, MCA has set a regulation that a leader could not hold party or government positions for more than three terms.

Asked if he was forced to resign, he said: "I think the public opinion has not been in my favour." "National leaders in a democratic country are elected by the rakyat so they have also to listen to the rakyat," he said when asked by the press if national leaders had forced him to leave. Chua appeared calm when fielding questions from reporters in the 35-minute press conference. He had earliler met his supporters who tried to convince him to stay on. At times, he also joked. "Now I don't have to look back to see who is following me, who is putting a tape in my room when I go to sleep in any hotel. Now, I am free like all of you." Chua said everyone's privacy has to be protected. "My biggest mistake was that I stayed in the hotel and in the same room for convenience. Next time, when you stay in a hotel, good luck to you." At one point, he hit out when asked for the response of the woman in the tape following his public confession. "I think that is not important. I should not be discussing my private life. If you are interested, maybe you can see the tape together with me. Would you like to see the tape with me?" he asked. Some supporters were seen shedding tears after his announcement.

Soi Lek Resigns From All Party, Government Posts

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- MCA vice- president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, who yesterday admitted to being the man in the sex DVD, copies of which are widely distributed in Johor, today resigned as Health Minister, MP for Labis and from all party posts with immediate effect. Dr Chua, 61, made the announcement himself at a press conference held at the ministry at 3.35pm.
Yesterday, at a press conference in Labis, Johor, he apologised to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Cabinet ministers, party leaders and his wife and family for what had happened. He also described the woman who appeared in the videotape engaging in sexual acts with him as his personal friend and that he did not make the recording himself. Dr Chua said his resignation had been conveyed to the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting. "The (resignation) letter is finding its way to his (Abdullah's) office," he said at the packed press conference which lasted more than 45 minutes. Clad in a dark suit, Dr Chua who was cool and collected, said: "I am relinquishing my position as Health Minister, MCA vice-president, Labis MP, Johor MCA liaison chief and Batu Pahat MCA division chief." He hoped that his resignation, supposedly over a "moral issue", would be a lesson to all leaders, whether in the MCA or other component parties of the Barisan Nasional (BN). Dr Chua, who took his oath of office as Health Minister on March 30, 2004 after winning the Labis parliamentary seat in the general election that year by defeating DAP's Tee Gey Yan with 10,729 majority votes, said he decided to relinquish all the posts after getting feedback from the people. "After making my admission (yesterday), I was hoping that Malaysians would accept my apologies but from the feedback I received, they could not accept." Dr Chua said he did not want to be a burden to the party and government if he continued holding the posts. He said as an MCA member who had held government positions for almost 20 years, he would remain loyal to the party and BN leadership. The medical doctor who graduated from Universiti Malaya in 1973, began his political career as a Johor state assemblyman by winning the Penggeram seat in the 1986 general election and held the seat for four consecutive terms until 2004. He was appointed state executive councillor for Human Resource, Consumer Affairs and Science and Technology (1990-1995); Environment, Consumer Affairs and Science and Technology (1995-1999); and Tourism and Environment (1999-2004).

"I think that anyone who is a leader has to be responsible for his mistakes or weaknesses. "I have come forward (to own up), I have had to face not just the national and party leaders but also the people at large. It appeared that they could not accept (my mistake), so to me and my family it was better for me to resign from my posts so as not to be a liability to the national leadership

However, he admitted that he did not at all expect the overwhelming negative response from the public after he made the confession yesterday that he was the man in the DVD. "I thought the response would be good but Astro said 91 per cent (of the people) wanted me to resign, while China Press said 99 per cent," he said. Dr Chua said while those in public office liked to stand on high moral grounds, "I feel proud at least I dared to admit that I never said that it was not me (in the DVD). I never said that they must prove that it was me. And, I never even said that it (DVD) was doctored."

Dr Chua's Decision To Quit Appropriate, Says Abdulla

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has described as "appropriate" the decision by Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek to resign as Health Minister, MP for Labis and from all party posts in the wake of a sex scandal. The prime minister said Dr Chua had assumed responsibility over what had happened. "I see it as an appropriate decision given developments that have taken place over a short period of time," he said. "I would like to thank him for taking into consideration the possibility of negative repercussions on the government and the party," Abdullah told a news conference here today.

[…]

It is understood that Dr Chua, 61, resigned after being advised by the Cabinet which held its weekly meeting today. The prime minister said Dr Chua had been monitoring feedback from the public and this could have led him to realise that it would be better to resign. Abdullah said he had received Dr Chua's resignation letter but the matter was not discussed at the Cabinet meeting as it was viewed as something personal. He said Dr Chua was present at the meeting but had kept silent on the matter. "We did not discuss or make any decision on the matter," said Abdullah, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman. He said the issue would not hamper BN's preparations for the next general election. "I don't see how this can affect our preparations as our election

machinery is running as normal," he said. To a question, Abdullah said it was not necessary to hold a by-election in Labis following Dr Chua's resignation as MP. On who would replace Dr Chua as health minister, Abdullah said the matter would be discussed with MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting as the post was meant to be filled by an MCA candidate. The prime minister said all projects and programmes outlined by the Health Ministry for this year would be implemented according to plan. "Matters concerning the ministry may be decided by the Cabinet," he said, adding that someone may be appointed as acting health minister. Admitting surprise over the scandal, the prime minister said no action

would be taken against Dr Chua. On whether he had seen the incriminating videotape, Abdullah said: "No, I haven't seen it and I don't intend to do so as the person involved had made a clear statement on this matter which was understood by everyone." Abdullah described the episode as an "invasion of privacy", a criminal offence in this country. He said that police may need to conduct an investigation into the case. The prime minister expressed confidence that the scandal would not lead to internal problems in MCA and that the party was capable of continuing with efforts to gain the people's support in the coming general election. He reminded leaders of all BN component parties on the need to safeguard their good name as the people not only expected them to work hard but also to possess strong moral values.

MCA Presidential Council Regrets Chua's Decision To Resign

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- The MCA presidential council has expressed regret that vice president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek has decided to resign as Health Minister and Member of Parliament for Labis besides other positions in the party and also strongly condemned those
responsible for filming and distributing the sex DVD involving him. MCA President Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said the party leadership also called on the police to take firm action against the perpetrators and ensure that those involved were punished.

"The presidential council regretfully accepts and respects his decision to be accountable for his actions. It must have been difficult for him and we commend him for putting his party and the country before self. "His willingness to step down voluntarily is an example of a responsible leader. It is his own decision to quit and as an experienced party leader, we respect his decision," he told about 50 reporters and photographers at a press conference after chairing the party presidential council meeting here today
.
The meeting was attended by all the council members, including Deputy President Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy, three Vice-Presidents Datuk Seri Fong Chan Onn, Datuk Ong Tee Keat and Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai, MCA Wanita Chief Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen and Secretary-General Datuk Ong Ka Chuan. Four presidential council members -- Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, Datuk Tan Chai Ho, Datuk Liow Tiong Lai and Datuk Wong Kam Hong -- were absent from the meeting lasting one hour and 45 minutes.

On the Health Minister's post, Ong said he had already submitted some names to the Prime Minister. "I have given my view. It is the Prime Minister's prerogative and we leave it to him to make the final decision. The MCA will abide by his decision." Ong said all party posts vacated by Dr Chua would be decided at the party's Central Committee meeting on January 8. Ong said MCA Johor Deputy Chairman Tan Kok Hong would be the acting state chairman and would take over Chua's responsiblities in the state while the state assemblyman for Penggaram, Koh Chee Chai, would assume Dr Chua's position as the divisional chairman. Ong said Dr Chua membership in MCA remained.

On whether the party would take disciplinary action against Dr Chua, he replied: "(He was) bold and responsible and hence this decision is appropriate and adequate." Asked if the image of MCA and Barisan Nasional had been tarnished by recent developments, Ong felt that Dr Chua's bold and appropriate action meant that the party's image and that of the ruling coalition was intact??.
"What is important is for the party to continue its good service to the people. We feel that it is time for us to move forward," he said. Ong's said Dr Chua's decision, which took into account the party's interests, was appreciated by the MCA. He said it was a big loss for the MCA as the former MCA vice-president was hardworking and effective. Asked whether the MCA would make a police report on the pornographic DVD, he said the police had already started investigations and hoped that those involved would be brought to justice.

On whether Dr Chua could contest in the next general election if he wanted to, Ong said the polls had yet to come and from what the former Health Minister had decided, "he should be given enough room and time to rest and move on." Ong said the MCA would like to record its appreciation to Dr Chua for his loyal service to the party, community and nation. "Our hearts are with him and his family as they weather this very difficult period. We salute Datin Seri Wong Sek Hin and the family for standing by him and providing him the pillar of strength to go through these times," he said. Ong said Dr Chua had served his people diligently and was well-liked at both the local and national levels. Dr Chua had also proven his capability as a minister by implementing many positive changes within his ministry since 2004, he said.

Political Leaders Respect Chua Soi Lek's Decision To Resign
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- Responsible, wise and apt. That summed up the views of several political leaders on Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek's decision to resign from all government and party posts today following his confession of being involved in a sex scandal yesterday. "The Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) respects Dr Chua's decision," said Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman in Johor Baharu after the former announced his resignation as Health Minister, Labis MP, MCA vice-president, Johor MCA liaison chief and Batu Pahat MCA division
chief, in Putrajaya.

In a statement, Abdul Ghani who is also Johor BN and Umno liaison chief, also conveyed his appreciation and thanks to Dr Chua for his contributions to the government and party all this while. Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Dr Chua had made a wise move. "As a responsible person, he had listened to the views of other leaders on the matter in the interest of maintaining the party and BN government's good image, in making the wise and practical decision," said the Umno vice-president. Muhyiddin said the incident was most unfortunate for Dr Chua who was an efficient and dedicated member of the Cabinet. Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, who is also an Umno vice-president, said letting go of his posts was a brave and responsible move by Dr Chua and "we respect his decision". "As a friend, I am sad over what happened to him," he added. Johor MIC chief Datuk K.S. Balakrishnan said Dr Chua's decision was nevertheless a loss to the BN and MCA. "We have lost a hardworking and committed leader," he said when contacted by Bernama. Balakrishman who has known Dr Chua since 20 years ago when both were state assemblymen, also described him as a courageous leader in pursuing BN's struggles.

Johor Gerakan chief Teo Kok Chee, who is also Skudai assemblyman, said Dr Chua was a popular leader who had achieved a lot in the MCA. "It's a pity that this issue (the distribution of copies of the DVD showing Dr Chua engaging in sexual acts with a female friend) has caused his resignation. It's a discplinary matter, but what to do. We have to respect his decision," he said. Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Abdul Halim Sulaiman said Dr Chua's decision was apt in the interest of BN's image and ethics. "It shows that BN leaders take responsibility for their actions. I am confident the issue would not adversely affect Johor BN," he said.

Why on earth everybody is scrambling to watch an old man & a young girl form the beast with two backs is beyond me.
Update:
It’s very strange. Here is what transpires is inside the video.
1. The girl takes out a laptop, places it on the right side of the bed and fiddles with it.
2. The girl shows the laptop to Chua Soi Lek
3. They f87k, with the laptop always within view on the right side of the bed.
4. While they f87k, Chua Soi Lek keeps glancing at the laptop.
5. While they f87k, the girl and Chua Soi Lek reach out to press the keyboard - several times
6. After f87king, when the girl switches off the laptop.

Somes questions came to mind. Is this some sort of kinky sex game that was intentionally recorded on the laptop? Did Chua Soi Lek resign because if he didn’t, the high-res version (which would clearly show his face) would be released publicly? What the heow is going on?
