Samy Vellu said the police wanted to confirm whether Krishnasamy had received death threats and if there was any other information. He said he would not appoint anyone to fill Krishnasamy’s MIC position for the time-being, adding that he would wait for the investigations to be completed. On death threats received by several senior MIC leaders the day Krishnasamy was killed, Samy Vellu said it was “normal” for politicians to get threats. “I have been in politics for over 40 years and I too have received threats but we will carry on with our work,” he said. "What happened to Krishnasamy can happen to anyone else," he said. He said a circular had been issued to all MIC assemblymen and members of Parliament on the need to take extra precautions to ensure their safety. Samy Vellu said that presently, there were some people within the Indian community who created agitation including in writing to show that the MIC and its elected representatives did not work for the benefits of the community. This was very dangerous because the aim was to sow hatred towards the MIC and its elected representatives, he said. "They write as though the people hate us a lot. When people think we are no longer useful, perhaps a shoot to kill can occur," he said.
Asked whether he believed that Krishnasamy's murder was politically motivated, Samy Vellu said he was not sure. "I cannot say whether it has something to do with politics, a private matter or in connection with the constituency. An elected representative has many connections," he said. However, he said, an elected representative should not be afraid when facing threats from irresponsible quarters. Samy Vellu also said that he was disappointed with the laxness of security at the Johor MIC building and the absence of security guards at the premises when the shooting took place. "I have told the Johor MIC chairman to place new security personnel and install closed-circuit cameras to know who come in and out of theoffice," he said. He also ordered all state MIC offices to review the security aspect of their premises.

Expressing his condolences to Krishnasamy's family, Najib said such killings (of politicians) were not part of the culture of this country. "I am saddened by what has happened. It has shocked the entire country. I hope everyone will give their cooperation and leave it to the police to conduct investigations. "The Inspector-General of Police (Tan Sri Musa Hassan) has said police are working swiftly to get to the bottom of it (murder). "So we have to find out why this happened... whether it was personal or something else. We want to know the motive," he told reporters after chairing a meeting of the National Disaster Relief Managament Committee at his office. Attack On M. Kulasegaran By Johor MIC Assemblyman An Attempt To Cover Up Improprieties In Maika Holdings And Silence Voices Of Shareholders Seeking The Truth
Media Statement; by Lim Guan Eng; (
(Petaling Jaya, Wednesday): DAP unreservedly condemns the irresponsible, illegal and violently unacceptable behaviour of Johor State Assemblyman for Tenggarah Datuk S. Krishnasamy in attacking DAP National Vice-Chair and MP for Ipoh Barat M. Kulasegaran yesterday during the Maika Holdings Bhd(Maika) Annual General Meeting(AGM). In his police report yesterday, Kula asked police to act against the Johor ADUN for elbowing Kula and pushing Kula away from the mike when Kula was speaking to the Maika AGM at Legend Hotel in
According to the report by Kula, “70% of the over 500 shareholders of Maika who attended the AGM had voted against the first agenda ‘to receive and adopt the Audited Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 2005 together with reports of the directors and Auditors’. Realising that they were defeated the Chairman presiding the meeting refused to declare the results. This caused great unhappiness and dissatisfaction. In trying to stifle the outcry and shut up the debate without revealing the outcome of the voting, Kula was attacked and the meeting was taken over by those displaying hooligan-like behaviour” DAP expresses disgust at the gangster politics employed by BN parties. Apparently UMNO is not the only one to use threats to silence truth-seekers when they can not explain or justify their actions. Recently such threats were employed against Professor Dr Lim Teck Ghee for being seditious in making conclusions from his academic research that the NEP 30% target for corporate bumi equity has been exceeded based on calculation of market value.
Similar violent tactics were employed by supporters of Port Klang ADUN and Majlis Perbandaran Klang Councillor Datuk Zakaria Md Deros when the public went to his palatial mansion on 29.10.2006. As Kulasegaran said, such violent tactics has no place in our
He must also condemn and disassociate MIC and himself from the gangster tactics employed by Datuk Krishnasmy as not only shameful to MIC but also to all Malaysians. Any failure to condemn Krishnasamy and explain to Maika shareholders would only confirm suspicions that MIC is trying to cover up the real truth of what has gone wrong in investments in Maika Holdings. DAP views this incident seriously and expects the police not to be affected by any politicial interference in investigating this incident. Should the police fail to take action then the matter would be pursued further for no one is above the law and even State Assemblyman do not have the right to assault people.
