Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz speaking to newsmen: " Of course it is serious allegation. I have the evidence, I know it. When was it that I have made statements that was not backed up by with evidence. "
Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department told reporters in Kelantan he has evidence that Tun Dr Mahathir tried to topple Datuk Seri Ahmad Abdullah Badawi as prime minister. The problem has indirectly created several groups in the cabinet and UMNO itself.
“If the situation is unresolved it would worsen in the next general election.” He had made the earlier allegation and the former premier had never denied it.
“And in fact several statements by Tun Dr Mahathir published in a foreign newspaper previously clearly show that Tun Dr Mahathir wanted Abdullah’s downfall.”
“Of course it is serious allegation. I have the evidence, I know it. When was it that I have made statements that was not backed up by with evidence. Of course I know. The person who knows it has already told me about it. I have no problems in disclosing what was told to me.”

It's political blackmail, says Nazri; Tues August 15, 2006
KUALA TERENGGANU: Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz has described Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's remarks that he would only stop criticising the Government if it
resumed the crooked bridge project as tantamount to political blackmail.
"We can't reverse the decision just like that. Before we made whatever decision, we had given much thought to it and taken the interests of the people into consideration.
"How can we change the decision because of one person?" the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department told reporters here yesterday. Nazri said Dr Mahathir's statement was merely an excuse for him to continue criticising the Government.
"Never mind. For me, he can go ahead. But don't let other people tell us not to reply, like Umno Youth exco member Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir.
"I don't understand, he said don't raise issues about his father at the Umno general assembly, but if his father continues to level criticisms, we have to continue replying.
"If we feel he has the right, the public and Umno members must understand I also have the right to answer," he said.
Nazri described the different views given by Umno leaders over the issue as reflecting disagreement within Umno.
He singled out Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin for misinterpreting his statement.
"I didn't say that Tun Dr Mahathir wanted to wrest control of power. I just said that I had information that Tun wanted Pak Lah's downfall.
"How can Tun say that what he did will not split the party? If the ministers themselves make conflicting remarks, what does it mean?" he asked.
Asked on ways to settle the situation, Nazri said: "Ask Tun if he loves the party. What he has done can split the party."

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak:" We hope the issues will not be raised again. There should be finality to the issues, they should not continue,"
Stop Discussing Bridge, Dr M Issues, Najib Says;
PETALING JAYA, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Tuesday urged all parties to stop discussing issues pertaining to the bridge and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said that this was because the issues had been answered and explained repeatedly by the government and should not be prolonged.
"We hope the issues will not be raised again. There should be finality to the issues, they should not continue," he told reporters after launching the School Inspector Golden Jubilee Celebration here.
Najib said this when asked to comment on Dr Mahathir's tirade against the Abdullah administration and his continued dissatisfaction with the government's explanation on the cancellation of the bridge project replacing the Johor Causeway.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Monday said the government would not retract the Cabinet decision to scrap the project, and stressed that the decision was made after the Cabinet had discussed it thoroughly and taken into consideration the people's interest.

Rafidah to Mahathir: Not another 1987 By News Desk The Star
Publication Date:
Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz has made an impassioned appeal to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to ease his attacks on his successor and the government.
"Please, Tun, remember what happened to you the last time (in the 1987 Umno election when the party was split)? Don't let it happen to Datuk Seri Abdullah (Ahmad Badawi). We don't need this.
"Please, let's help the party, help the country. We recognise all your contributions but, please, let Abdullah run the government," appealed Rafidah, who is also International Trade and Industry Minister.
She said she was deeply saddened by the prolonged criticisms of the former Prime Minister against his successor.
"No Prime Minister enjoys 100 per cent support. Dr Mahathir should be the first to know this because he was severely criticised during his tenure.
"He almost lost the presidency in the contest with Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (in 1987) and he could not even garner a 50-vote majority.
"He should remember the harsh criticism from Umno members and the public against him. But the majority of us rallied behind him and he won - but by a razor thin majority," said Rafidah.
She stressed that Abdullah should be allowed to run the government. Rafidah said that as a Cabinet minister and Wanita Umno chief, she supported Abdullah as the leader.
She also stressed that Abdullah had allowed full debate during all the Cabinet meetings and while some of the decisions made might have been painful they were made with collective consensus.
In TELUK INTAN, Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin said the movement would heed Najib's call to stop discussing the two issues and instead focus its attention on more important matters.
He said that if there were still members who wanted explanations on the bridge and other issues raised by Dr Mahathir, they could discuss them in party forums at the division or state levels.
"We will treat Datuk Seri Najib's call as a directive," he told reporters after opening the Umno Youth Teluk Intan divisional delegates meeting Tuesday.
