Lingam’s Brothers Feud – Electrician Vs Lawyer; Given ACA Statements on V K Alleged Closed Relationship - Judges & Personal Safety; 2 Police reports

Malaysiakini reported Lingam's brother: I am not mad!

and in Malaysiakini.tv showed VK Lingam's brother endures 7-hour grilling by ACA
The ten-year old feud between the electrician younger brother and the elder VK lawyer has surfaced for the public to show all the dirty linens. Further disclosures by the younger brother seemed to corroborate and further reinforced the evidence in the 8 min video clip of V K’s exploitation of the Judiciary. His only way to silence and discredit his bother is to say that he is of unsound mind (now challenged by the younger brother) Even though the ACA has investigated his pass records and cleared him then, the new evidence surfaced in the disclosures could nailed him properly just like thet CCID Booss Datuk Ramli.

There was an attempt by VK to force him to go for a 2-year stay in psychiatric hospital feigning mental illness when an attemptget him to make a false statement and told him to get himself admitted for two years in Hospital Bahagia (a psychiatric hospital)failed.
And we would like to know how his younger brother “had lost his job at Tenaga Nasional Berhad”?. There must be efforts on his part to bring about this loss considering the considerable influence he has.

Like the former MP of Buki Bintang, Wee Choo Keong,(ABOVE) 1 day before the nomination (14 April 1995) for the 1995 GE he was slammed with a RM7000 fine (over some violation of an Injunction) which eventually was used to disqualify him as the elected MP. And that Dr Ayam (Dr Lee Chong Meng and another) filed an election suit. And on 2nd August 1995 the infamous Chief Justice Datuk Ahmad Firuz gave judgment and disqualified him and appointed Dr Ayam as the MP without calling for a by-election. And Wee now would want to have his old problem investigated in the RCI if it is included in the terms of reference.
There are interesting times ahead before of the 12th GE which is now widely speculated to be in March 2008 (before Datuk Anwar qualified to stand?). And that RM72M subsidy to the flour manufacturers to hold on to the price increase in order to “buy” back the loss voted if the price increase takes effect now.

Lingam's Brother Gives Statement To ACA

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The Anti- Corruption Agency (ACA) today recorded a statement from V. T. Thirunama Karasu, in connection with two police reports lodged last March against his brother, lawyer Datuk V. K. Lingam. One of the reports which Karasu, 49, also known as Balan, was about Lingam's alleged relationship with judges while the other was for his safety. The reports were lodged on March 16 and 19.

About 11.30am, he turned up at the ACA office here, accompanied by his counsel, Wee Choo Keong,(ABOVE) following a request by the agency to have his statement recorded over the police reports. Until 6pm, Balan was not seen leaving the ACA building. Earlier, before entering the building, he told the media that he was not involved in the issue of a video clip which purportedly showed Lingam discussing judicial appointments over the phone with a senior judge. Balan also denied that he was mentally unstable as claimed by Lingam, adding that he had never received any (medical) treatment for such a condition.
"You (media) can check on my medical history, whether I suffered from
any mental illness. Ask him (Lingam) to prove otherwise. "I went for medical check-up at the University Malaya Medical Centre, only because I was pressured by my brother and sister (Lakshmi)," he said, adding that he had instructed his lawyers to take legal action against his brother for baseless allegations against him. Meanwhile, Wee said two police reports were lodged by Balan on March 16 and 19 this year to protect his safety and on Lingam's alleged improper
relationship with judges.

Wee, however, said he did not see the rationale of the ACA asking Balan too many questions pertaining to the video clip, instead of focusing on the corruption matter involving judges. In 1998 and 2000, Balan lodged two reports to the ACA, alleging Lingam's involvement in corruption. However, he said no action was taken by the police.
On Sunday, Wee told a press conference that Balan claimed he was privy to various acts of corruption involving judges. Balan claimed that he used to send a former chief justice home, and that he even delivered handphones and briefcases to several judges. He also alleged that he was instructed to pay the handphone bills of a former inspector-general of police.
In a related development, ACA deputy director-general (I) Datuk Abu Kassim Mohamed told Bernama that recording Balan's statement was part of the agency's investigations.
"Following this, we hope to see new leads in the case," he said.

Lingam dismisses brother's allegations as baseless

PETALING JAYA (Nov 19, 2007): Lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam today dismissed as baseless the allegations of corruption made against him by his brother K.V. Thirunama Karasu in a March 19 police report. In a signed statement faxed to theSun, Lingam, who was featured in a 2002 video clip apparently brokering judicial appointments with a Datuk, described his brother as suffering from psychiatric problems and that he had made similar allegations against him to the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) in 1998. His statement was in response to several newspaper reports today regarding two police reports lodged on March 16 and 19 by Thirunama Karasu, 50, who is also known as Balan. "In 1998, Balan made several statements to the ACA, which allegations were similar to those made in his two police reports," said Lingam. "I was of course not privy to those statements but as a result, I was thoroughly investigated in 1998 by the ACA. I believe that the ACA did not pursue any action on the allegations made by Balanb as they and the Attorney-General's Chambers were aware of Balan's psychiatric condition. "Furthermore, the allegations were, in any event, baseless." He said Balan had also made the same allegations to several "prominent individuals", who declined to take matters further as they would have also realised his condition. "It is my greatest regret that Balan is now being used, manipulated and exploited by persons who certainly do not have his interest in mind but that of their own selfish motives and agenda. "Their attempts to sensationalise these baseless allegations will prove to be unfounded." Lingam admitted that Balan and he had had many serious differences on issues concerning the family, as a result of which they had "fallen out completely since late 1997". He also claimed that Balan had lost his job at Tenaga Nasional Berhad. Thirunama Karasu's March 16 report was about him being tailed, and that he feared for his and his family's safety. The March 19 report contained explosive allegations against Lingam of offers of gifts to a former top judge, a former police top brass and a former top officer of the Attorney-General's Chambers. He alleged that he and another brother were involved, either jointly or individually in delivering the gifts in 1996.

His report was revealed to the press by Malaysian Democratic Party (MDP) secretary-general Wee Choo Keong on Sunday.(ABOVE) Among other things, he alleged that he delivered a new leather briefcase, a wallet and a lady's leather bag to a former top judge's house in 1996, and four handphones to the former top judge and two former judges. He also alleged that he saw Lingam hand over a cheque for RM50,000 to a former industrial court chairman. Thirunama Karasu had also claimed that in 1998, Lingam had sent three lawyers to get him to make a false statement and told him to get himself admitted for two years in Hospital Bahagia (a psychiatric hospital), but that he refused. He said he was also told to act depressed and mentally unstable and to get admission to University Hospital. Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Arjunaidi Mohammed confirmed receiving two police reports lodged by Lingam's brother in March. He declined to disclose details of the reports but said police referred one of them to the ACA after examining it. He added that the other report did not contain any criminal element for police to pursue.

Lawyer V.K. Lingam's brother lodges 'explosive' report

Maria J. Dass

PETALING JAYA (Nov 19, 2007): A brother of prominent lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam has lodged a police report against him, containing explosive allegations of offers of gifts to a former top judge, a former police top brass, and a former top officer of the Attorney-General's Chambers. Electrician K.V. Thirunanama Karasu, 50, made the report on March 19 this year, in which he said he and another brother were involved, either individually or jointly, in delivering the gifts in 1996. This report is pursuant to another report which he lodged three days earlier at Kelana Jaya where he alleged that he was being followed and watched and that he feared for his life and safety of his family, because of a report he had wanted to lodge against Lingam and all those involved.

The March 19 police report was given to reporters today by Malaysian Democratic Party (MDP) secretary- general Wee Choo Keong (pix), who said Thirunama Karasu called him 10 days ago for help and subsequently gave him a copy of his report. Thirunama Karasu was not present at today's press conference at the MDP office at SS2.(BELOW)

Police on Sunday were not able to confirm receiving the report but a source said such reports are usually referred to the Federal Commercial Crimes Investigations Department and if any elements of corruption are found, the department will liaise with the Anti-Corruption Agency. In his report, Thirunama Karasu named the gifts that he delivered:

* A new leather briefcase (containing some documents), a wallet and a lady's leather handbag, delivered to a former top judge's house in 1996.
* Three bowls of soup prepared by a brother's wife for the former top judge's wife who was sick at that time (no date given).
* Four handphones and one extra battery to the former top judge and two
former judges.

Thirunama Karasu also alleged that in 1995, he saw Lingam handing over a cheque for RM50,000 to a former industrial court chairman. In that year, he also witnessed a dinner hosted by Lingam at his house in SS7, Kelana Jaya, for the former top judge and a former senior judge and their wives and children. Thirunama Karasu also alleged that he had driven Lingam to the former top judge's house, usually at about 11.30pm, and the latter would be carrying a big bundle of files. But when he returned to pick him up between 12.30am and 1am, he would be carrying a single file. His police report also alleged that in 1996, he received cash from Lingam to settle a handphone bill in the name of a former top policeman. Thirunama Karasu also recounted an incident in 1996, in which his brother instructed him, another sibling and a family friend to withdraw large sums of money from a bank in Jalan Sultan Ismail upon receiving information that the Anti-Corruption Agency was going to Lingam’s office to investigate the Perwaja Steel corruption case.

Some of the money was banked into his and the family friend's accounts and five bank drafts for 60,000 pound sterling each were later banked into his account, and the accounts of five other people in London. Thirunama Karasu claimed that in 1998, Lingam warned him not to tell the ACA about his dealings with the former judges and the former top policeman and those involved after he (Thirunama Karasu) gave a full statement to lawyer "Datuk Safee (sic) Abdullah and Sulaiman Abdullah". His police report did not mention the context in which he had given that statement. However, he did say that in December 1997, he was forced to sign a statutory declaration prepared by Lingam, and another brother. "In 1998, my brother sent three lawyers who forced me into making a false statement and made me sign the statement on 81 pages. They then told me to get admitted for two years in Hospital Bahagia. I refused. They then told me to put up an act that I was very depressed and mentally unstable and get admitted in University Hospital," said Thirunama Karasu.
"They put fear into me during the 1998 ACA investigations and I told them that in 1998, the first and third statement which I gave ACA was true and the second statement was false," he added. Wee said there was no link between the sources of the 14-minute video clip released by Parti Keadilan Rakyat adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in September and Thirunama Karasu's police report. He said the decision to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate the video clip as announced by the prime minister on Friday should also take into account the contents of this police report.

Lingam ready to cooperate

By EDDIE CHUA; STAR
KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam, who is implicated in a controversial videoclip which allegedly showed him brokering the appointment of judges, has said he is willing to appear before the soon-to-be set up Royal Commission of Inquiry. “I will make myself available, anytime. I will comply with the commission in accordance with the due process of the law,” he said. This is the first time Lingam has spoken about the matter since the controversial videoclip surfaced about two months ago. “It is an ongoing investigation. I cannot comment on this case. That is why I had not spoken or issued any statement on this matter earlier,” he said yesterday. Lingam said although he had met the Anti-Corruption Agency on the investigation into the videoclip, he was not at liberty to discuss the matter or what had been said to the agency.

He also refused to discuss anything pertaining to the videoclip. The clip supposedly shows a prominent lawyer talking on the phone with a senior judge about the appointment of the Chief Justice in 2002. The clip was the subject of an investigation by a three-man independent panel set up by the Government on Sept 25. The panel, comprising former Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Haidar Mohd Noor, former Court of Appeal judge Datuk Mahadev Shankar and social activist Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, concluded their investigation before the Nov 8 deadline. Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz and Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Radzi Sheikh Ahmad were directed to study the reports by the panel. They will brief the Cabinet tomorrow. On Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had said a Royal Commission would be established to inquire into the videoclip based on the report submitted by the independent panel. In Parliament House yesterday, Nazri said the details and composition of the commission as well as its terms of reference would be discussed at tomorrow’s Cabinet meeting. “The details will be known then,” he told reporters. Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang meanwhile called for the Royal Commission to be empowered to look into all aspects that affect the independence and integrity of the judiciary. He said the commission should not be investigating only the videoclip but also the judiciary

Senior lawyer: Brother being manipulated

PETALING JAYA: Lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam regrets that his younger brother, who lodged two police reports against him, has been made used of by people with their own agenda.

“It is my greatest regret that he is now being used, manipulated and exploited by persons who certainly do not have his interest in mind but that of their own selfish motives and agenda,” he said in a statement yesterday. Wee: Was mentioned in the videoclip purportedly showing the brokering of the appointment of judges. It was reported that Lingam’s brother, Thirunama Karasu, an electrician who is also known as Balan, had lodged two police reports on March 16 and March 19.

The reports, which were made public by Malaysian Democratic Party secretary-general Wee Choo Keong during a press conference on Sunday, contained allegations against Lingam, retired judges, retired top court officials and a former high-ranking police officer. Lingam said the attempts by these people to sensationalise the baseless allegations would prove to be unfounded. He said his brother was suffering from health problems and that they had fallen out completely since late 1997 after experiencing serious differences on family issues. He said Balan had made several statements to the Anti-Corruption Agency and the allegations were similar to those made in his two police reports. “I was of course not privy to those statements but as a result, I was thoroughly investigated in 1998 by the ACA. “Furthermore, the allegations were, in any event, baseless,” he said. Lingam has been implicated in a videoclip which purportedly showed a senior lawyer brokering the appointment of judges. Wee, whom the Election Court disqualified after his election as MP of Bukit Bintang in 1990, was mentioned in the videoclip. Last night, Wee said he knew Balan as a normal person with a sound mind. He urged Lingam to lodge a police report if Balan had lodged false reports against him.
