Police Round Up 120 Illegal Racers

IPOH, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- Police rounded up 120 people including six women and 19 students taking part in an illegal motorcycle racing at Taman Botani, Gunung Rapat here on Sunday. They were hauled up in a two-and-half-hour operation ending at 8 pm by 30 policemen aided by 11 Rela members, said Perak traffic police chief Supt Wan Abdullah Ishak (BELOW)

The illegal racers, aged between 15 and 30 years old, were taken to the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters here for screening, he told reporters here Monday. He said four of them, all male, were detained after they were tested positive for drugs while the rest were released on bail.

Police impounded 111 motorcycles (BELOW) in the operation for further inspection and issued

summonses on 29 the motorcyclists for not having driving licence and road tax.

Wan Abdullah said illegal racers from Kuala Lumpur and Kelang who were believed to be sponsored by an individual also took part in the illegal race. He said motorcycles which were not involved in any criminal activities would be returned to their owners
