NO 4-EYE MEETING Between ABDULLAH /MAHATHIR at National Heart Institute (IJN); END of CRTICISM from MAHATHIR? Rafidah’s & Brenda’s Relentless ATTACKS
UPDATE: Nov 11 06; 19:45hrs
"I Want To Rest After This," Says Dr Mahathir;
By Ahmad Kamil Tahir
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is being treated at the National Heart Institute (IJN), plans to take complete rest for several weeks, including staying away from the Umno General Assembly on Monday. "I want to rest...not making any statement...hope the (Umno) assembly runs smoothly," he said in an interview with Bernama and Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) Saturday, two days after being admitted to the IJN after complaining of chest pain at home. Dr Mahathir, who was wearing a short-sleeved shirt and long pants, appeared in high spirit although his condition was rather weak during the 20-minute interview.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.: "After the attack happened, I immediately informed the Doctor, alerted the Driver, and later he was sent to IJN"
Accompanying him was his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali. Dr Mahathir said it was fortunate that he had sought immediate treatment as soon as he had the mild heart attack, and this had enabled the specialist doctors to dilute the blood clot in his coronary artery.
"The heart attack was mild but I came early, three hours after the attack...they (the doctors) managed to dilute the clot and there was no blockage.
Deputy priemier Najib:" He is in high spirits and doing well"

Abdullah being such a kind hearted soul (he even visited the sick Datuk Partiban in KL Hospital during Raya time) was disappointed when he arrived at IJN and was told he could not see his enemy No 1 (or he refused to see him; SEE Bernama's REPORT BELOW (Nov 10, 12.41pm) – Tun Mahathir Still Under Observation “to be fine and appeared cheerful yesterday afternoon” i.e. during Abdullah visit at 2.15pm). So there was NO 4-Eye meeting in the ward except a 15 min chit chat with IJN’s CEO & the Chief cardiologist on Dr Mahathir’s condition, after suffering a “mild heart attack”. This probably resulted from the strenuous journey (11 hrs ) coming back from NZ after giving a talk in
It was a big rebuff and this probably signals the end of Mahathir’s further criticism if he wants to value his life and extend it. His heart attacks might also be due to the continuing attacks on him by Rafidah & Brenda just before the UMNO assembly (which he has indicated he wants to attend) If he had read Rafidah’s and Brenda’s comments, his attack would have been more massive.
However the DAP Leader WAS LUCKY on Friday and so were many others who came a calling .

Dr M Under Sedation And Resting, Says Mokhzani;
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for chest pains early Thursday, has been put under mild sedation by doctors and is resting, his son, Datuk Mokhzani, said. "For the time being and for the next 48 hours, very unlikely anyone will be allowed to visit my father," he said. Mokhzani said even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who visited Dr Mahathir Thursday afternoon, was not allowed into the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) by doctors to meet his father. “The Prime Minister only spoke to me and the doctors. He was concerned about the well-being of my father and asked the doctors to do everything possible," he told a horde of reporters waiting at the IJN lobby since the news about Dr Mahathir's admission to the premier heart centre spread like wild fire. Rafidah: Deliberate With Constructive Criticism, No Rash Allegations;
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- "Criticise but let it be a constructive one" is the advice by Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Rafidah Abdul Aziz to delegates participating in the debate at the party's general assembly next week. Her other advice is for delegates to give suggestions which are "reasonable and acceptable by the leaders". "They can raise issues concerning some people without embarrassing them ... there is no need to embarrass the person if the matter to be raised is of public interest," she said in a special interview here today. Rafidah, who is also International Trade and Industry Minister, said any proposal or suggestion raised should be meaningful and criticism made should be based on facts obtained from a thorough study. For example, at last year's Umno general assembly, there was a suggestion for each division to be given 40 Approved Permits (AP) to import cars a year, which can be likened to "asking the Malays to learn to sell APs, mortgage contracts and (engage in the) Ali Baba (scheme)". "Alas, it is back to the old ways. We want to teach the Malays to do business through franchise seriously, with contract. Even that is criticised," she said. Rafidah also advised delegates to avoid using foul or obscene language, making dirty remarks simply for fun and rash allegations although "they can joke to make the function merrier". The movement's leader since 1984, except for three years (between
In fact, recently she had instructed her officer to "dig into all files and to release each and every working paper on the distribution of the APs, including minutes of meetings, the decisions that were made not by me but by the committee (on AP)". "Explain to Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) so that he can sleep tight on the believe that everything is well. For me... I cannot accept anyone who questions my integrity.
"I can be criticised on the way I administer or about my way, go ahead criticise, I do not care, but do not smear and touch on my integrity because I have taken my oath of office (before the holy Koran).
"However, for the last time (when she responded to the issue) in religion, slander is a more serious offence than murder, and to me, all accusations hurled at me, including that one (where she was accused of corruption in the issuing of the APs), are all libellous," she said. Touching on Wanita Umno's struggle so far, Rafidah said she was satisfied with the opportunities provided to the women in the country who had since helmed various high posts, the latest being those of vice-chancellors of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Malaya, as well as the presence of three women ministers in the Cabinet.
Now the movement is seeking the government to upgrade the status of the

Rafidah Says She Hits Out At Dr Mahathir Because Of His Rash Accusations;
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz said Tuesday she had to counter the open criticism of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad against the government because it was "rash and tarnished the image of Umno and the government". She said that as a member of the Cabinet it was her responsibility to counter Dr Mahathir's criticism that the Cabinet was apparently "half-past six", and that she could not accept the ridicule. "I would be stupid to accept wrong accusations," she said in commenting on the allegations of certain quarters that she apparently did not give due respect to Dr Mahathir when she was the one who had been most supportive of the former prime minister at one time. Rafidah was the first person to rush to the rostrum to coax Dr Mahathir to withdraw his announced retirement at the 2002 Umno general assembly, to the extent that she broke the heel of a shoe. "As part of the current Cabinet, I have principles. What is right is right, what is not is not," she said in a special interview at her office. "If the accusations are rash and incorrect and are directed at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and the present Cabinet and government, it will be too difficult to accept them," she said. "We do not blindly support anyone. If the leader is good and can be trusted, it is not a problem. But we must know our limits (in supporting a leader)," she said. Rafidah, who is Minister of International Trade and Industry, said that since Dr Mahathir began criticising the government, she has often been questioned by foreign politicians thus: "Why has Tun (Dr Mahathir) become like that? Why does he criticise the government that he has led before?" She said she had no answers to these questions. Asked about the sentiment of Wanita Umno members towards the issue of Dr Mahathir's criticism of the government, Rafidah said Wanita Umno was loyal to leaders.
"For us, party unity is important, and it is improper for anyone to make open criticisms which clearly belittle the present Umno government and undermine the interests of Malays themselves. "When one criticises the party leadership and government helmed by the Malays, it is similar to criticising our own race, and it will tarnish our image in the eyes of outsiders," she said.
Rafidah said that as far as Wanita Umno was concerned, there were many channels to raise problems and issues with the government and such means should be employed by a former leader (than making open criticisms). "It is not difficult for him to telephone or communicate one-to-one with the present leaders on any issue (that he wants to raise)," she said.

BRENDAN’S PARTING SHOTS: Tun Dr Mahathir Hitting ABDULLAH BELOW The Belt By Character Assassination; DISCREDIT & DESTABLISE His Government
A vicious personal verbal attack, especially one intended to destroy or damage a public figure's reputation.
Brendan Pereira on Monday: No one can win this clash of the year; From NST;
SO much has been written and spoken about the clash of the year. With a week to go before this battle reaches a crescendo at the Umno general assembly, it may be timely to revisit some of the key points of.
Caution: those above 18 who do not believe in freedom of speech or d ssenting opinions should avoid reading this column.
What motivated the attack?
Personal interest, nothing else. In the early days, the bile-dipped arrows came packaged as the impassioned plea of a former prime minister concerned over the future of the country. But over time, all pretence was dropped.
Dr Mahathir believed that he had put in place all the policies and projects that
His statement to TIME recently is an eye-opener: "I thought that I have done most of the things that will serve us for the next 100 years ... All that remains is for people to just continue. Don’t reverse what has already been done." The irony of this whole sad episode is this: the PM has deep respect and love for Dr Mahathir. But he did not see himself as a seat warmer.
Why have the attacks become more personal?
Simple. Dr Mahathir wants to re-define the public perception of Abdullah. Most Malaysians see the PM as someone with a strong spine, someone who is clean, someone with a strong moral compass, someone who believes in a more open and transparent country. These qualities and an election manifesto which caught the imagination of many helped Abdullah and the Barisan Nasional win a strong mandate in March 2004.
As long as Abdullah’s image remains intact, mud catapulted at him would not have stuck. So in recent weeks, the attacks have been designed to paint the PM as someone who encourages nepotism and who tolerates corruption. Dr Mahathir has also criticised Islam Hadhari. "He is almost a saint who is free from any human weaknesses or wrongs," said Dr Mahathir. That is the image he is seeking to re-define.
Was there a tipping point in the attack?
Arguably, the tipping point came just after the peace talks between Dr Mahathir and Abdullah on Oct 22. Remember both of them agreed to the four-eye meeting because that was what the ground wanted. Barely 24 hours after the two-hour meeting, the former prime minister unleashed his most intense attack on Abdullah, questioning his integrity and even mocking the way he took notes. For the fence-sitters, this fusillade of criticism was a clear signal that Dr Mahathir wasn’t interested in any compromise with the PM. He shared no common ground with Abdullah and went into the meeting looking to knock the PM into submission. Not the Hari Raya gift many people were hoping for.
Most stinging comment uttered by Dr Mahathir
It was only three words but they were designed to hurt and create doubt on Abdullah’s strongest quality — his integrity. After suggesting that the PM was involved in the United Nations food-for-aid programme in
"I don’t know," said Dr Mahathir, despite knowing that a UN inquiry
And the winner is...
Nobody. Sure, Dr Mahathir has hurt himself badly in this attack. He has come across as uncharitable, vindictive and even untruthful to some. His statement that he was willing to hold his tongue if the half-bridge to
His attempts to chisel himself as someone who embraced openness seemed
surreal.
Still, only someone on magic mushrooms would argue that Abdullah has come through this spat unscathed. His record since becoming the PM has been run through the grinder and the spotlight has been shone on unfulfilled promises from the election manifesto.
What to expect at the Umno assembly
There will be a conscious effort not to allow the Dr Mahathir issue dominate the annual gathering of Umno delegates. The consensus is that the party should give the leadership unvarnished feedback about expectations not met. At the same time, members will rally around Abdullah.

Dr M Must Accept That Leaderships Differ, Says
KOTA BAHARU, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said Sunday Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should accept the fact that the way he ran the government may not necessarily be similar to the leadership style of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. The PAS spiritual leader said the former prime minister would surely realise that every leader has his own way of resolving problems. "Tun (Dr Mahathir) must accept the fact there will be a difference between the previous and present governments," he told a news conference at his official residence here, one day after his discharge from hospital where he was treated for five days for a bout of flu. Nik Aziz said it was not necessarily so that every new government must continue with the programmes planned by the previous government because action must be taken according to the time and situation. "Even in my case, when I retire, the person who will come after me may not necessarily emulate my style (of administration) 100 per cent," he said. Nik Aziz also called for the extreme criticism levelled at Dr Mahathir to be stopped as a mark of respect for a leader who has led the government for 22 years. He said that though PAS was an opposition party that could benefit from the current scenario in Umno, it was not comfortable with the matter getting prolonged. He said the spat between Dr Mahathir and Abdullah should be stopped immediately without any intervention
