KEPALA BATAS: Datin Seri Jeanne Abdullah, wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, has officially become an Umno member of the Bertam branch here. Abdullah himself presented her with the membership card at the Bertam Sports Complex yesterday. “Jeanne will register as a voter for the Kepala Batas constituency,” he told reporters after launching membership cards for Penang Umno members and the Semarak Merdeka, marked by Putra Umno's run from Butterworth to Kepala Batas from 7am to 9.45am.

Abdullah handing over an Umno membership card to Jeanne after launching the party membership and loyalty card at Bertam Sports Complex in Kepala Batas, Penang. Abdullah said all Umno division and branch chiefs should ensure that their members were registered voters. “Many Umno members have not registered as voters and I hope they will do so soonest and exercise their rights in the next election.” He said Barisan Nasional should still remain the ruling coalition when the country celebrates its 100th year of Independence in 2057.

He said Barisan had set a track record where the people live in peace and their income increase as a result of fair distribution of the country’s economic wealth. “We are with the rakyat and for the rakyat and I hope you will continue to support us for a better future,” he added. Abdullah gave awards to senior Umno veterans and presented membership cards to Penang Umno division heads. He also presented bicycles to families for recreational activities around the 3km route Bicycle Garden, which he had earlier launched at the sports complex.
