Govt To Demand Compensation From Hindraf
SUNGAI PETANI Nov 29 (Bernama) -- The government
will demand compensation for damage to public property from leaders of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) and those involved in its illegal demonstrations in the city and Batu Caves on Sunday. Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom said the ministry and police were estimating the damage to public property and other losses caused by the demonstrators. "The amount of losses will be conveyed to the Hindraf leaders and others involved," he told reporters after closing a workshop on the "Role of Civil Societies in Tackling the Drug Menace" for the North Zone organised by the National Anti-Drug Agency here today.

"They also have to pay for the cost of equipment that the police had to use to quell Sunday's illegal demonstrations. The government will notallow them to escape paying." Asked on further action by the government against Hindraf and others involved in the demonstrations, he said other than the legal channels, the government could also use the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Hindraf leader released on police bail
SEREMBAN: Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leader V. S. Ganapathy Rao was released on police bail after being questioned for five hours on allegations that he had uttered seditious remarks at a gathering attended by some 4,000 people at a school hall here on Nov 17. The 34-year-old lawyer was arrested outside his office in Taman Seri Muda in Shah Alam about
7.40am by a team of 15 policemen and brought to the state police headquarters here two hours later.

Talking to reporters after being released about 3.30pm, Ganapathy Rao said he was alleged to have made seditious remarks while speaking at a gathering at SRJK(C) Pei Hua along Jalan Tun Dr Ismail near here. Among the speakers at the gathering were two other Hindraf leaders, lawyers P.Utahayakumar and P Waythamoorthy. “While being brought here from Shah Alam, the policemen told me that I was being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948. I was surprised when told that I had made such damaging remarks at the gathering,” he said.

Ganabatirao said police recorded his statement and told him to come to the state police headquarters here on Dec 12. It is learnt that the police would then decide whether to charge or release him. Present outside the state police headquarters were some 100 Hindraf supporters. Ganapathy Rao calmly walked towards the crowd and briefly told them in Tamil what transpired during the interrogation and that police were polite.

“I told the police that I never made any seditious remarks at the gathering. The police then gave me examples of the remarks that I allegedly made and again, I denied saying those words,” he said. He thanked those present for their show of support and appealed to them to disperse immediately. “We do not want to create any problems. Let us abide by the law,” he said. Ganabatirao’s 32-year-old brother, V Raidu was allowed to enter the police headquarters and send him lunch. When contacted state OCCI ACP Huzir Mohamad confirmed that police recorded the statement and would decide in due course if they have a case. Ganapathy Rao, Uthayakumar and Waythamoorthy were given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal by the Klang Sessions court on Monday as the charge against them -for allegedly uttering seditious remarks at another gathering in Batang Berjuntai on Nov 16 - was ambiguous.

WAR on Hindraf Leaders; Ganabatirau arrested & Uthayakumar next? Both for Seditions; Zam Fanning Anti-Hindraf Anti-Al-Jazeera in Egypt; More Calling for ISA use

It looks like the defacto Law Minister is waging an all out war on all the Hindraf leaders as he felt they are “challenging the government” and he would see to it that they face the music. He remained unapologetic for condemning the protesters as ruffians or crooks. And he has asked the Tamil Nadu CM to hands off "on Malaysian affairs". He would likely do the same to the US and asked them to "piss off" as q US State Department official says the Abdullah administration should allow peaceful protests following the government crackdown on both the Bersih and Hindraf rallies.
ABOVE: After wining a battle last Friday in Klang, the war is now for the Hindraf leaders. BELOW: Datuk Anwar Ibrahim in solidairty with Hindraf struggles
Meanwhile support is fanned up to use the ISA against the leaders for more protest. Even the Minister of Info Zam was doing his part whilst in Egypt to get the Malaysian students there to see his point view over the Hindraf actions and at the some time warning the students not to believe what they see in Al Jazeera.
Speaking declared;
"UMNO & BN is in a total State of Denial. So arrogant, refusing even to acknowledge the legitimate demands of the Community, including the Indians. This is to be expected"

Hindraf leader V Ganabatirau arrested this morning

from dap Ronnie Lui

Ganabatirau is now giving statement at the IPK Seremban. According to his lawyer N Surenthiren, he will be charged under the Seditions Act. Surenthiren is trying to bail him out today.
V Ganabatirau was one of the three Hindraf leaders arrested on last Thursday. He was charged together with P Uthayakumar and P Waytha Moorthy last Friday at the Klang Sessions Courts for seditions but were released on bail on the same day. As a fearless human rights fighter, Gana went ahead to lead the 30,000 Hindraf rally last Sunday.

The trio were discharged on Monday by the sessions courts in Klang on Monday as the prosecution has failed to present its case properly. PM Abdullah has threatened to use the draconian ISA on Gana and other Hindraf leaders on Tuesday. So, is Gana now arrested under ISA? DAP will back him up and provide whatever assistance to him. We urge all fellow Malaysians to support young Malaysian fighters like Ganabatirau. I know you will.

Hindraf lawyer may be charged

By Anis Ibrahimnews@nst.com.my

KUALA LUMPUR: Hindraf legal adviser P. Uthayakumar could face fresh sedition charges if a memorandum sent to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was indeed drafted and signed by him. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz said the memorandum, dated Nov 15, contained seditious statements which would create public anger and outrage."The memorandum can incite anger among the Indian community towards the government. Any Malay Muslim who reads it will also be angry with the Hindu Rights Action Force."Nazri said the police would investigate the authenticity of the memorandum. "If the document was indeed written by Uthayakumar, we will ask the attorney-general to consider charging him under the Sedition Act." He described statements in the memo as unfounded. "To say that the Indians have been subject to ethnic cleansing in Malaysia and to threaten that it will only be a matter of time that they (the Indians) will be forced into terrorism like the Sri Lankan Tamil Tigers, is highly irresponsible. "If we can verify that Uthayakumar was directly involved with the memo, we will take action against him." Nazri issued a warning: "

Do not challenge the government. I promise that he (Uthayakumar) will be made liable for what he did." The memorandum, which seeks the help of the British government, has been circulating on the Internet. Among others, it asks for Brown's assistance to refer Malaysia to the World Court and the International Criminal Court for "crimes against its own ethnic minority Indians". If found guilty, the punishment under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948 is a maximum fine of RM5,000 or three years' jail. Under the act, "sedition", which includes inciting racial hatred and bringing the government into contempt, can apply to any act, speech, words, or publication. He reiterated that the 20,000 Hindraf supporters who took part in the rally were crooks (penyangak). "They are definitely crooks. They broke the law, didn't they? Not all Indians are crooks -- only the 20,000. They do not represent the entire community. "If you want me to find Malay crooks, there are many of them, I can find them." When asked what would be done if Hindraf held another rally, Nazri said: "Fine, let them. Do it (buat lah). Do it." He also defended the police force and how they reacted to protesters on Sunday. "Look at what happened in France. They used rubber bullets and here they (Hindraf) are saying that our police were violent. "We only used water cannon and tear gas."

Cabinet Wants Hindraf Document Investigated

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz (ABOVE) said police had been directed to investigate the authenticity of a document said to be a memorandum issued by the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf). The document addressed to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown had been posted on a popular weblog. "The Cabinet meeting today discussed the document and if it is found that it was issued by P. Uthayakumar, then we will ask the Attorney-General to charge him under the Sedition Act for making seditious remarks," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here today. The document claims that Umno-led Malaysia has committed "ethnic cleansing" of the Indian minority and asks Britain to intervene and refer Malaysia to the World Court for crimes against the Indians. Nazri said the document clearly proved that Uthayakumar had incited Indians against the government and pitted the Malays and Muslims against Hindraf. "Words like ethnic cleansing and threats of what happened in Sri Lanka could happen here are irresponsible. Do not challenge the government.

He (Uthayakumar) must be responsible for his action."He said the Cabinet also discussed the illegal rally by Hindraf on Sunday, adding that those who participated would be prosecuted. On the DAP suggestion that he apologised for calling the demonstrators gangsters, Nazri said: "I will not apologise to Hindraf. "The 20,000 people who turned up are gangsters because they defied thelaw. I am not saying this to the Indian community but to the gangsters who attended the illegal rally." Nazri said the attitude of the 20,000 illegal demonstrators did not reflect the true attitude of some two million Indians who loved peace and unity.

Various Quarters Support Use Of ISA To Deal With Street Demonstrations

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Various quarters have voiced support for the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on using the Internal Security Act (ISA) to deal with illegal street demonstrations. They want the government to immediately implement the move so as to preserve unity and political and economic stability in the country. They say as a moral society, Malaysians should uphold the principles of Rukunegara and not act as they please to the extent of depriving others peace and harmony.

President of the Federation of Peninsular Malay Students, Datuk Reezal Merican Naina Merican said it would be an apt move if the Prime Minister decided to use the ISA against street demonstrators. "The Prime Minister's patience has reached the maximum as the people have been given the freedom, including criticising the government through the blogsites," he told Bernama here today. Reezal, who is aso an Umno Youth committee member, said the action of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) to initiate an illegal rally in the city on Sunday was extreme and it ignored the sensitivities of the country's 26 million citizens.

Senior lecturer at Universiti Malaya's History Department, Dr Ahmad Kamal Arifin said if the government delayed in curbing the problem, it could lead to racial conflicts. He said although some people said the illegal gathering by Hindraf was peaceful, violence did erupt among some in the gathering. "Therefore, using the ISA is appropriate and a quick way to diffuse the unhealthy situation without waiting for a court decision," he said. President of the Indian Muslim Congress Malaysia (KIMA) Syed Ibrahim Kader said the ISA shoud be used against anyone trying to threaten the country's peace and stability. On Hindraf's demands, he said the Indians in Malaysia should remember that they came to this country 150 years ago to earn a living and not to take away the rights of others. "However, we the Indian Muslims do not feel that we have been marginalised in this country or that there are quarters trying to take away the rights of the Indian community," he said.

Umno Youth treasurer Datuk Ab Hamid Mohd Nazahar also supported the move to use the ISA. Otherwise more people would become even bolder to challenge the government via street demonstrations, he said. He urged the government to use the ISA against the Hindraf leaders for Sunday's incident, besides inciting racial hatred and arousing religious sentiments which could disrupt harmony in the country.

Don't Be Swayed By Al-Jazeera's Biased Reports, Zam Tells Malaysians

CAIRO, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysians should not be easily taken in by what was shown in the Al-Jazeera satellite television station particularly on issues smearing Malaysia's image and reputation. Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said Malaysia was not the only country facing problems with Al-Jazeera for airing negative and adverse reports but also several Arab nations. This was told to him by Egyptian Information Minister Anas Ahmad Nabeeh El-Feky in a meeting with him here on Wednesday. Zainuddin said Egypt also had to face several incidents of distorted reports by Al-Jazeera which highlighted some issues that were inaccurate from what actually happened.
ABOVE: in the same boat unable to face th truth

"Egypt and several Arab countries are in a similar predicament with Al-Jazeera over certain incidents that happened in their countries. Al-Jazeera showed a distorted scenario of what really happened," he told reporters after meeting El-Feky in his office. Zainuddin said if Al-Jazeera continued with its distorted reports in Egypt, the Egyptian government would issue a warning to the television station. In fact, the Egyptian government had taken action, including jailing an Al-Jazeera broadcast journalist, for filing untrue reports, he said. The minister said El-Feky also told him that several Arab nations had closed down AL-Jazeera's offices in their countries due to biased reporting. Asked whether Malaysia would do likewise, Zainuddin said the government has no plan as yet to close down Al-Jazeera's operations in Malaysia. "Nevertheless, Malaysians must be wise in evaluating the news broadcast by the station to ensure they are not carried away by the untruths reported," he said.

Malaysian Students In Egypt Angry With Hindraf

CAIRO, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysian students in Egypt are angry with the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) for ignoring the Yang di-PertuanAgong in highlighting the problems faced by the Indian community in Malaysia. Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said several groups of students who met him expressed their anger over Hindraf leaders' move to

ask Britain's Queen Elizabeth II to intervene in Malaysia's internal affairs. Their action tantamounts to challenging and showing disrespect to Malaysia's Constitutional Monarchy system and to Malaysians who are loyal to the country, he told reporters here Wednesday. Zainuddin said Hindraf have portrayed themselves to be still under the British colonial rule and not as citizens of an independent and sovereign Malaysia. Hindraf staged a street demonstration in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday to submit a memorandum to the British High Commission urging Queen Elizabeth II to appoint a Queen's Counsel to represent the Indian community in a class action suit against the British government for bringing Indians as labourers to the then Malaya and thereafterexploiting them. The suit was filed at the Royal Courts of Justice in London by Hindraf chief P. Waythamoorthy in August.

Chia: Don't Be Misled By SMS That Are Out To Tarnish Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Deputy Information Minister Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye Thursday said some irresponsible elements are out to tarnish the reputation of Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein via a short message system (SMS) purportedly sent out by Bernama, the Malaysian National News Agency on Wednesday. "The Education Minister did not make such a statement nor did Bernama sent out such an SMS," he said in a statement issued
here today.

ABOVE: What did I said?

The SMS purportedly quoted Hishammuddin (ABOVE) talking about Indian and Chinese voter support. Chia advised the people not to be misled by the SMS. A spokesman from Hishammuddin's office said the Umno Youth chief also did not make any public statement yesterday. He said his office would ask the authorities to identify the source of the malicious SMS.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,

I am a Malaysian citizen, and I am a subscriber of ASTRO Satellite TV Broadcast here in Malaysia. Recently I have subscribed to the ASTRO News Package which contains Al Jazeera and other foreign news media.

I was highly looking forward for the international news broadcast on all of the stations provided by the package when I had shocking news from our local news station claiming that the foreign news broadcasters are lying and making stories without properly acquiring the real facts and they are very good actors !!! Furthermore these claims were also made by our government's politicians.

Now, this is rather disturbing and disappointing for me as I have only subscribed for the service for just a few days and I'm being bombarded with such claims. This eventually made me to think:

Am I an IDIOT to subscribe, pay and end up watching acts and lies
OR
Is there is any conspiracy going on here????

I clearly understand the fact that Al Jazeera has a strong principal called the Code of Ethics and you strictly follow it. But the claims by the politicians and local media here make me to think otherwise.

The claims below were broadcasted on 27-November-2007 in TV3 news station. Similar claims were also made in other local newscasters. This is just a few of the claims.

1. TV3 news station claimed that the foreign media cannot be trusted as they do not report the actual news.

2. YAB Datuk Sri Samy Velu claims that there were only 4,600 demonstrators on 25-November-2007 and NOT 50,000 or any other number as claimed by the foreign media.

3. TV3 news station said that the questions thrown at the Information Minister of Malaysia by Al Jazeera (Al Jazeera's name was mentioned) was to purposely create a scene to show that Malaysia is in kiosk situation and Al Jazeera purposely built up the story from the real one. They also mentioned the criticism made by the Information Minister to Al Jazeera.

(Prior to sending the mail, I did some research on the net and actually found the video clip of the above Interview in Youtube. And I actually laughed myself out listening to the reply given by our Minister. Pity him for his language. But in the Malaysian news channel TV3, they only provided the "CLEAN" version of the transcript and the actual call was not aired. This makes me even more confused!!! Who is telling the truth here???)

Now, if Al Jazeera is telling lies,

It is high time for Al Jazeera to review back their Code of Ethics and provide the truth for the people. If you can't do it then don't cheat the entire world. And don't broadcast your news at all. I am not a fool to keep paying for acts and lies.

And if Al Jazeera is NOT lying,

Well, what the heck. The damage has already been done. No one in Malaysia is going to listen to your news anyway due to the "VERY GOOD" publicity done by the Malaysian politicians and the local media. By the way, did I mention that our local media could also be received by our neighboring countries like Singapore and Thailand?

FINAL CONCLUSION

It is not my intension to insult Al Jazeera, other foreign media, our local media or the politicians. If you feel offended by this email, I sincerely apologize to you. Whatever the scenario is, all that I want (and the rest of Malaysian citizens who are in my situation want) is the truth. Since Al Jazeera's and other foreign media's names have been badly damaged here in Malaysia, Al Jazeera and the other foreign media's SHOULD do something to fix it back or you may start losing your viewer in Malaysia.(and its surrounding countries too)

I hope you could keep my details confidential and properly investigate on this issue (just in case if you don't trust me) and find out the real truth behind such a drastic claims made by our local media. That is if you still follow your Code of Ethics.

Yours truly,
A concerned viewer.

PS:
1. i am also forwarding this mail to other foreign media for their response.
2. i will be posting this transcript in the internet via blogs so that the viewers around the world will be aware that this matter has been brought to your attention and for them to express their views.

In Malaysia the foreign news broadcasts are 'sanitised' that is the main reason that there is a time delay of 3 or 4 minutes for these supposedly 'live' news broadcasts.
Sometime items of news are cut short, or replaced by advertisements.
Foreign adverts are also cut out.
I watch and listen to the news both on ASTRO and, in order to get the 'lost' items, also on SW radio and via the Internet.
The local free to air TV news is not worth watching, and the local newspapers are full of propaganda, lies and misinformation, if anyone reads them any more, please learn to 'read between the lines'.

Its pity on all the Malaysian Indians to suffer. As an Indian myself who had in the past worked in Malaysia knew the happenings in Malaysia and the problems faced by the Indian people there. The govt is simply creating a big mess out of this issue by not really giving an ear to the concerns of the community suffering.By this act Malaysia is getting noticed by world and that is not going to be gud names for the rulers there. They are simply calling themselves as multi enthnic and stuffs like that and actually doing nothing but only enthic cleansing is happening there by destroying the community's worship places. The Indian Party which is in share with the government and its leader Samy Velu should be ashamed of himself and his party for being dumb. What else to say about him, He is a true slave of the government who has earned milions of wealth as an slave. People should come out boldly and International Governing body's should condem and should act in a positive way to help The communities by not encouraging the current government. The government should remember one thing that the entire Indian Community have dedicated themselves for the nation and they are not bought to Malaysia for their earnings as per an ministers statement. May be he needs to read lots of history..Its time for him to go to School. There is another minister who blasted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and which clearly showed him that he is not a professional in what he is doing at the moment. How can the law of the country be stable with people like him as Justice minister..Let God help the people who is seeing the truth.
