Thursday November 15, 2007;Stop the illegal gatherings’ ;By LOURDES CHARLE,STAR

KUALA LUMPUR: Stop the series of planned illegal gatherings in the federal capital and other states – that is the warning from the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan. “We are aware that certain groups are planning to hold illegal gatherings from state to state in the coming weeks and will bring along their children as well. “We have sufficient evidence, including photographs, to show that children were used as shields as well as to evoke sympathies.” Musa said the police had given “sufficient warnings” to those involved in future illegal gatherings adding that the police would not compromise on security matters.

He said it was the job of the police to maintain the country’s peace and security and that “if tougher actions have to be taken, we will.” Musa said organisers of such gatherings had always claimed that their protest was peaceful but said police had to use water cannon last week because the protesters refused to disperse despite repeated warnings. In Batu Buruk (Terengganu) on Sept 8, a gathering organised by Bersih turned violent. Police have evidence that the protesters went there well prepared for a fight as they were armed and some carried Molotov cocktails. The rioters were dangerous and four policemen were attacked. One policeman had to fire into the air and was almost killed. Musa advised the public to stay clear from such gatherings, as there were other avenues to voice their grievance and frustrations.

On Monday, Syed Azman Syed Nawawi, a PAS central committee member, reportedly said the group was considering presenting memoranda to each of the nine sultans following last week’s protest, which drew thousands. On Tuesday evening, police went around Batu Burok to stop a planned demonstration by PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat from going ahead. Bersih is a loose coalition comprising PAS, PKR, DAP and non-governmental organisations which seeks reforms in the elections. The Bar Council said yesterday that it was planning a march here on Dec 9 in conjunction

The rumors must have been rife in
Sarawak that some demonstration is going to happen in Sarawak that worried the IGP when he said the Police are monitoring the situation there closely as he does not want a recurrence of the successful “Bersih Rally” to be repeated there. At the same time following the heels of that Zam Minister, he lashes out at Al Jazeera for giving his “well behaved and clean untainted force” a bad name. Meanwhile that timid and cowardly MCA small mouse has declared the Bersih Rally as a “political gimmick” - to confuse and worry the people? He further added that “street demos” are illegal – but he did not know the SIL had been doing it – see details H E R E

IGP Hits Out At Al Jazeera Over Report On Illegal Rally
KUCHING, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- Inspector- General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan today criticised Al Jazeera for potraying police as having used force to quell an illegal rally in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. He said the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) representative who witnessed the rally had stated that police abided by the rules and did not use any weapon or force on the protesters.

ABOVE: Water-Chemical Canon is NOT a weapon? and BELOW: and it wouldn't hurt?

"Its (Al Jazeera's) claim was not right. Suhakam was there and saw that police did not use force and had acted professionally. "It was merely a propaganda (by Al Jazeera) to give the country a bad name," he told reporters after visiting the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) at Km24 Jalan Borneo Heights, near here, today.

Yesterday, Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin hit out at Al Jazeera for what he claimed as an attempt to hoodwink the international community with a one-sided report on the illegal assembly. He said his ministry would send a formal letter to censure Al Jazeera over the report. Musa, meanwhile, said so far, police had not received any information on any demonstration being organised in Sarawak, but police would keep monitoring. "We will take stern action against the organisers of any illegal assembly for we do not want what had happened to recur," he said.

Street Protest A Political Gimmick, Says Ong

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- The street protest organised by the Coalition for Clean and fair Elections (Bersih) on Saturday is a political gimmick by opposition parties to discredit the ruling party in the bulld-up to the general election, MCA President Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said today. He said the Opposition wanted to create an impression that "if there is something wrong with the electorate roll, then there is also something wrong with the government". "By holding street demonstrations, they will try to make the people worry and create unnecessary tension for their advantage," he told reporters after chairing the weekly MCA Presidential Council meeting. The Housing and Local Government Minister said MCA, being a component of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, would not support street demonstrations as it was against the law.

ABOVE: But not "against the law" for the SIL?; Is this the double standard the Police has always been practicing?

"The parties involved should use the right channel to forward their views and not hold street protests," he added. Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse thousands of people who tried to march from Jalan Tun Perak to Dataran Merdeka for an illegal assembly organised by The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih), a group of 60 non-governmental organisations supported by five opposition parties. Two hundred and forty-five people were detained for questioning but were released after their statements were recorded.

An interesting revelation in Day 57 of the Altantuya Trial. The Cyber Security firm witness when questioned said ”he was neither gazetted to testify as an expert nor was the agency accredited by any independent body” And this private company is funded by the Government and they had presented a report to the Panel “that there is a possibility the Lingam Clip is not authentic”

So are they qualified to assess and verify the Lingam Video Clip and can they be considered “independent”
