The bus (suffered little damage) with a bigger mass and body can absorb the impact better than the car

Five died in bus-car collision and the sole survivor suffered serious head and body injuries and is now warded in the Taiping hospital. Larut Matang deputy district police chief Supt Syed A. Wahab Syed A. Majid said that the sole survivor, driver of the rented car was speeding while descending the Bukit Gantang hilly areas. It went out of control and collided head on with the bus with 5 passengers and all escaped injuries.

All six wre on their way to Penang in a rented Proton car after observing the Merdeka celebrations in Ipoh. The time and choice of death is always yours.

The premonition of death can be seen in the NST report (below) when Zulkiflie's aunt Siti Aminah Ibrahim, 40, said the latter who only recently started working in a supermarket here came to her house in Taman Damai, Simpang, at about 4pm on Wednesday and asked her to forgive him for his misdeeds.

“He was acting in a strange way; now we know why,” said Siti Aminah

Runaway girl comes back dead

TAIPING: It was every parent’s worst nightmare. Taiping Hospital security guard Shahrila Tan, after a week of frantically trying to locate her youngest daughter, yesterday identified the girl’s remains at the hospital mortuary.

It was a cruel twist of fate for the 49-year-old single parent who was on duty at the hospital and thought nothing of it when a body was wheeled into the mortuary about noon.

Her daughter, Norshahazatulniza Mohamad Nazal, 14, had run away from home a week ago and could neither be traced nor contacted despite frantic efforts by Shahrila.

The teenager was among five who died in an accident involving a rented Proton Saga and a stage bus at Km70.6 of the Ipoh-Taiping trunk road at 8.40am yesterday.

Shahrila reported for work as usual at 7am and was going about her duties before she was informed of her daughter’s death about 12.30pm by one of her colleagues.

She broke down after identifying the body and leaned against the wall for support while sobbing uncontrollably.

"Akak, Atul dah meninggal... Betul ni, ada kat bilik mayat. Accident. (Sister, Atul is dead. I am serious, at the mortuary. (Involved in) accident)," she was overheard talking to her sister on her mobile phone.

Later, she told the New Straits Times that Norshahazatulniza was a troubled child and had run away from home on several occasions.

"This time around, she walked out of the house and stayed with her boyfriend saying that I had hurt her feelings with my constant nagging," Shahrila said.

"I tried to call her numerous times but failed to get through as her mobile phone was switched off... and now she is dead," Shahrila said, while lovingly caressing a passport-sized photo of her dead daughter.

Norshahazatulniza, she said, was released from a rehabilitation centre for problematic youths in Jitra, Kedah, in May.

"I nagged at her only because I loved and cared for her," she said in between sobs.

Besides Norshahazatulniza, the others who died in the accident were identified as Zulkifle Mohd Ali, 18, Sharizan Afendi Zulkipli, 22, Mohd Firdaus Izzanie Azizi, 19, and Nor Fadli Nordin, 21.

The driver of the car, Ali Lokman Yahya, 19, sustained serious head injuries and was warded at the Taiping Hospital while all those on the bus escaped unhurt.

It is learnt that the six youths had rented the Proton Saga the day before and had made their way to Ipoh for the Merdeka Day celebrations. They were supposed to return the car the same night.

At 8am yesterday, they had stopped at a stall in Bukit Gantang for breakfast. At 8.40am, they were involved in a head-on collision.

Five friends killed in crash from the STAR

TAIPING: An outing in a rented car for six youths, including a 14-year-old girl, ended tragically when five of them were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a stage bus on the Ipoh-Taiping trunk road near here yesterday.

Police identified the deceased as Norshahazatulniza Mohamad Nazal,14; Mohd Firdauz Izzanie Azizi,19; Shahrizan Afendi Zulkipli, 22; Nor Fadli Nordin, 22; and Zulkiflie Mohamad Ali,19; all from Simpang here.

Larut Matang deputy district police chief Supt Syed A. Wahab Syed A. Majid said except for Zulkiflie who died on arrival at the hospital here, the rest all died on the spot in the 8.40am crash at Pecah Batu, Bukit Gantang.

The lone survivor of the crash, Ali Lokman Yahya,19, a student at a skills training institute in Ipoh, has been warded at the Taiping hospital.

Supt Syed A. Wahab said the cause of the crash was being investigated but none of the five passengers in the bus including its driver and conductor was hurt.

He said the car was heading north towards Simpang while the bus was heading towards Kuala Kangsar.

Firemen had to use cutters to remove the victims from the mangled car which was pinned under the bus.

A blood-soaked Jalur Gemilang was also retrieved from the car.

Zulkiflie's aunt Siti Aminah Ibrahim, 40, said the latter who only recently started working in a supermarket here came to her house in Taman Damai, Simpang, at about 4pm on Wednesday and asked her to forgive him for his misdeeds.

“He told me that he was planning to go to Ipoh and then to Pangkor with some friends in a car but later sent an SMS message, saying he missed his grandmother.

“He was acting in a strange way; now we know why,” said Siti Aminah.

Stall owner Zulkifli Ahmad Ramli, 54, whose son Shahrizan Afendi also died in the mishap, said the accident occurred minutes after they stopped to have breakfast at about 8am at his food stall in Bukit Gantang town a few kilometres from the crash site.

“Shahrizan Afendi told me he wanted to return to Simpang where he was working as a stall helper and when one of them wanted to pay for breakfast, I told them it was on me.

I did not realise that it would be the last breakfast for my son and his friends,” he said at the hospital mortuary yesterday.
